Aboriginal Engagement

Centrals is regionally recognised as taking a leadership role in engaging with Aboriginal people and representatives.

Currently our skilled, professional and growing Aboriginal workforce makes up 18% of total employees, and between 6% and 44% of work crews on projects.

In addition, we have formed many partnerships with Aboriginal companies in the Mid West and Goldfields Regions, having established collaborative arrangements with:  Wajarri Holdings; TCR Grading; BPH Haulage; BYAC-Yillah Civil & Mining Contractors; and Mid-West Employment and Economic Development Aboriginal Corporation (MEEDAC).

Most recently we have formed Yagahong Alliance, a joint venture between Central Earthmoving and Yugunga-Nya People who are the Traditional Owners of the lands surrounding Meekatharra.  Yagahong Alliance has commence a two-year contract at the Degrussa Copper Mine, owned by Sandfire Resources NL and operated on Yugunga-Nya country.

The objective of Yagahong Alliance is to create jobs and opportunities for the Yugunga-Nya People, with Centrals providing training and mentoring to the Yugunga-Nya People who wish to participate in the Alliance

Centrals ‘leading practice’ commitment to Aboriginal engagement, participation, training and employment has been recognised as having positive results for Aboriginal people and communities across the greater Mid West Region by:

  • Department of Mines and Petroleum
  • Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (previously Yamatji Land and Sea Council)
  • Clontarf Foundation
  • Department of Aboriginal Affairs
  • Chamber of Minerals and Energy Western Australia
  • Mid West Mining Aboriginal Economic Development Industry Partnership
